Erica X Eisen is a writer, editor, and journalist currently living in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. She received her bachelor's degree in History of Art & Architecture from Harvard University with a focus on Japanese art and her MA in Buddhist Art History & Conservation from The Courtauld Institute of Art. Her work frequently focuses on the intersection of the arts and broader political or social themes. She is a reader at Granta and an associate editor at Hypocrite Reader. She is currently working on her first novel. She also runs Bishkek Spotting, a visual exploration of Bishkek's art, history, and urban fabric.
One of her short stories was awarded Special Mention in the 2020 Pushcart Prize anthology, and an additional three of her short stories have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize. She was twice awarded the Cyrilly Abels Award for best short story by a female undergraduate at Harvard. In 2015, she won the Short Story of the Year Award at Buffalo Almanack.
